So stokefest was a great success on a fairly chilly day and once again there was firm evidence that when not shopping there's nothing the British like more that to sit down and drink. Surrounding local shops even sold out as people waddled in to the park weighed down with their six can's of Stella for £4.99.

Wonderful and very welcome beautiful weather hit Stoke Newington over the weekend and everyone that had felt trapped in their homes over the winter months went to the park to play tennis, football or drums, and walk, cycle, skate, and have a fine old time in the warm sunshine. The park was bursting at the seams with people and the bins overflowed so that people tidily piled their garbage against them. Cafe and park staff were everywhere picking up litter.
Stoke Newington's first tree to come into leaf every year once again delivered its leaves to us and in a week or two the small horse chestnut will look like a large green pom-pom in the park signalling that summer is on the way.

{pictureRef ( , "picture of speech day at the cricket competition", border:1, title:"love those tee-shirts", align:left)} Clissold Park users may be interested to see this picture
of the last moments of the big Stoke Newington Cricket Club 5th
birthday party being held in Clissold Park today. It started with an
under-11s match at 9.30 and concluded with a game between Stoke
Newington Cricket Club and the England Blind Cricket Team. There
was a great brass band, smashing picnic and cake-cutting celebrations
throughout the day, all to celebrate 5 years of cricket-coaching in the
park. There were scores of people there to support the event right up
to the end, as well as enjoying another fine day in the park. The park
looked great and was chocker with people having a great day. It was
hard not to have a lump in your throat when the tireless David Blundell
made his speech and said how much he had enjoyed the day, when you
enjoy your own party you know it was a good one!
